Attempt at 2012 Mayfest Celebration
Mayfest seniors to attempt record for the "Longest Soul Train
Line"
(Jonesboro, GA) In recognition of Older
Americans Month in May, Clayton County Senior Services Department
will host its annual Mayfest celebration. The event will take place
on Friday, May 11, 2012, at the Clayton County International Park
(The Beach) in Jonesboro, from 10 am until 2 pm. The day's
activities will end with a record-breaking attempt to form the
"Longest Soul Train Line".
Senior Services recently received notification from Guinness'
main office located in England that their request was approved. "We
are very excited about going after the record", said the director
of senior services, Mary Byrd. "Each year it is our goal to make
Mayfest a bigger and better event for our seniors with the support
of the Board of Commissioners and our community partners, and this
year is no exception." This year however Senior Services has
enlisted the support of a new community partner, Sibley-Miller
Surveying & Planning. A local company that is serving as a
professional, official witness to accurately record length of the
line and donating their services to assist Senior Services with
their attempt to break the Guinness World Records for the "Longest
Soul Train Line". The current record is 211 and was established by
a high school in California.
Last year's Mayfest celebration was the largest one ever, with
over 650 seniors in attendance. This year's Mayfest attendance
number is expected to reach 1000.
