County's Chairman Eldrin Bell hosted the Clayton County Regional
Housing Summit: "Step by Step Remedies for Recovery". He brought to
Clayton County national leaders in the housing industry, regional
community leaders and individuals from the world of academia to
address the housing crisis on a national and local level. With well
over 200 people in attendance for the two-day summit many of the
speakers and attendees were impressed with the vision and the
platform that was presented during the housing event.

she recently hosted a reception for civil rights activist and
Freedom Rider, Dr. Pauline Knight-Ofosu of Rex, Georgia, in honor
of the 50th Anniversary of the Freedom Rides. The

112 Smith Street.

- CCWA Wins Two Plant of the Year
Awards
Morrow, Georgia - Clayton
County Water Authority (CCWA) was honored by industry peers when it
received 2011 Wastewater Treatment Plant of the Year Awards for two
of its water reclamation facilities during the Georgia Association
of Water Professionals (GAWP) Spring Conference.
The Northeast Water Reclamation
Facility (WRF) in Rex and the Shoal Creek Water Reclamation
Facility (WRF) in Hampton beat out fierce competition to earn these
prestigious industry awards.

Clayton County Senior Services Mayfest 2011
Mayfest is an
annual event held at International Park that celebrates Older
American's Month during the month of May. Mayfest offers Older
Adults an opportunity to participate in a competitive fitness walk,
receive valuable information from over twenty health vendors,
participate in interactive fitness activities, and enjoy music and
entertainment by this year's Guest MC: DJ Youngblood of the radio
station KISS 104.1. Mayfest 2011 will also feature demonstrations
of the Kickboxing Yoga Fusion class, World Dance class, the very
popular Zumba class, and even a special demonstration by seniors
and staff together.

- Frank Bailey Fitness Center Ribbon Cutting
A
ribbon cutting ceremony was recently held to celebrate the new
Frank Bailey Fitness Center located at 6213 Riverdale Road,
Riverdale, Ga 30274, adjacent to the Frank Bailey Senior Center.
Attending the event were Clayton County seniors, county staff and
elected officials; including former elected officials State
Representative Frank Bailey and Commissioner Virginia Gray.
Congressman David Scott (District 13) and Mary Presley, HUD
Director of Community Planning & Development, who were
instrumental in assisting with funding for the new fitness center,
also participated in the long awaited ribbon cutting ceremony. The
project spans a period of five years when in 2006 a total of
$1,245,809 of the county's CDBG Entitlement funds were used for the
design, construction and equipping of the Frank Bailey Fitness
Center. Over time an additional $148,500.00 in HUD funds for
construction were secured by Congressman David Scott through an
Economic Development Initiative (EDI) grant, bringing the total
Federal funding to $1,394,309.

- Board of Commissioners presents CSU Lady Lakers with
proclamation for capturing NCAA Championship Title
The Clayton
County Board of Commissioners presented Clayton State University
(CSU) President, Dr. Timothy Hynes, CSU Lady Lakers basketball
team, Head Coach Dennis Cox (Russell Athletic/Women's Basketball
Coaches' Association (WBCA) Division II National Coach of the
Year), Assistant Coach Kaleena Coleman, and CSU Athletic Director,
Mason Barfield with proclamations during their Tuesday evening
Business Meeting. The CSU team made both Clayton State University
and Georgia basketball history when they captured the university's
first national title in any sport and Georgia's first national
basketball championship for a women's team during the NCAA Division
II tournament on Friday, March 25, 2011, in St. Joseph's,
Missouri when the Lady Lakers defeated third-ranked
Michigan Tech in a 69-50 victory.

County Town Hall Meeting
Commissioner
Sonna Singleton (District 1) and The East Point/College Park
Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will host a
"State of the County" Town Hall Meeting. The meeting will take
place on Monday, April 18, 2011, from 6:30pm to 8:15pm at the Carl
Rhodenizer Recreation Center located at 3499 Rex Road in Rex,
GA.
The local East Point/College Park
Alumnae chapter, with approximately 500 members, has served the
Clayton, Fayette, and South Fulton counties since 1979. For

to Host Housing Fair for Senior Citizens

Senior Services Department and the Neighborhood Stabilization
Program (NSP) have partnered to provide housing information to
residents age 55 and older regarding county programs and

The Saturday, March 26, "Welcome Home" for
the national champion, Clayton State University women's basketball
team saw Clayton County Board of Commissioner Sonna Singleton
(District 1), a couple hundred students, faculty, staff, alumni
(including several former Laker basketball stars), friends and
supporters gather at the Athletics & Fitness Center to cheer on
the Lakers and Coach Dennis Cox's after their Friday night NCAA
victory.

County Website Receives National A+ Rating
Clayton County website receives national recognition for a second
year

Jonesboro- For the second
consecutive year Clayton County's government website received an A+
rating for its openness and accountability in displaying
information to the public from the Sunshine Review. The
county's site is among 112 nationally recognized county websites to
receive the honor. The 2011 Sunny Awards, which more than double
last year's number of entries, recognized the best state and local
government websites in America that exceeded transparency
standards.

Annual County Excellence Awards

selected as Georgia County Excellence Award recipients by the
Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG). The counties
were recognized for developing innovative programs designed to make
county government more effective and efficient, improve services
for county residents and enhance the quality of life in Georgia
communities. Now in its 6th year, the Georgia County Excellence
Awards program is co-sponsored by the ACCG and Georgia Trend

Protection Week

- The Clayton County Board of Commissioners (CCBOC) is
joining with federal, state, and local government agencies, as well
as, national organizations to celebrate the 13th annual National
Consumer Protection Week (NCPW) March 6-12, 2011. A proclamation
was presented to the Metro Atlanta Better Business Bureau office at
the CCBOC March 1st Business Meeting (7:00pm). During NCPW, groups

their privacy, manage money and debt, avoid identity theft, and

the Big Top

Commissioner, Chairman Eldrin Bell, will be taking on a different
sort of leadership role on Thursday, February, 24 when he serves as
the Guest Ringmaster for the world renowned UniverSoul
Circus. The amazing show takes place in the Green Parking Lot
of Turner Field and will begin at 7:30pm as Chairman Bell makes his
grand entrance into the big top riding an African Elephant. Tickets

Commissioner Sonna Singleton Appointed as Vice Chair for NACo's
Arts and Culture Commission

Ga - District 1 Commissioner, Sonna Singleton, has been
appointed National Association of Counties (NACo) Vice Chair for
the Arts and Culture Commission. NACo President Glen Whitley
recently made the announcement regarding the appointment. Singleton
