About Michael Edmondson
Commissioner Michael Edmondson is an
active member of the community. Since moving to Clayton County in
1998, Mr. Edmondson immediately became active in the Chamber of
Commerce. He graduated Leadership Clayton in 2000 and joined
its Advisory Board for the next several years, including two terms
as Chairman. In 2002, he received the Clayton County Chamber
of Commerce Chairman's Award as volunteer of the year. Mr.
Edmondson is an active member of Rotary International, including
three consecutive terms as Treasurer and current President of the
Rotary Club of Lake Spivey. He is a former Treasurer for Keep
Clayton County Beautiful, Inc. and served together with
Commissioner Ralph on the 2005 Clayton County Advisory Board for
United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta. Mr. Edmondson served on the
board of his own Lake Jodeco Homeowners Association during the last
several years and was the inaugural Treasurer of Lake Spivey
Community, Inc. In 2009, Governor Sonny Perdue
appointed Commissioner Michael Edmondson to the Circuit Public
Defender's Office Supervisory Panel.
Commissioner Edmondson received his Bachelor of Arts in
Economics and Government from The University of Texas at Austin in
1994 and completed the Certified Financial PlannerTM curriculum
through Oglethorpe University in 2003. Currently, he attends
the International Economic Developer Council's CEcD certification
program. Professionally, he offers financial planning and
investment services through one of the nation's largest and oldest
financial institutions.
Representing District 4 on the Board of Commissioners, Mr.
Edmondson sponsored or supported several important initiatives,
including:
- Rewrite of Clayton County's Zoning Ordinances, implemented
July, 2008.
- Creation of new Parliamentary Procedures for the Board of
Commissioners
- Creation of new Constituent Aide positions to assist citizens
with issues.
- Creation of new Chief of Staff position to manage county
department heads
- Creation and reorganization of Code Enforcement Division of
Police Department
- Increased Office of Public Defender staff attorneys
- Creation of a Parks & Recreation Citizens Advisory
Committee
- Acquisition of new recreational facilities site
- Negotiated terms and financial backing of Southern Regional
Medical Center $40M debt facilities
Commissioner Edmondson, his wife, Karen, and their young
daughter, Maya Katherine, live in the Lake Spivey area of
unincorporated Clayton County.
