Statistical Reports

The following reports provide a statistical picture of the work of the Court during calendar year 2011:

DELINQUENT FILINGS: Those charges that relate to law violations regardless of the age of the person committing the act such as aggravated assault, burglary, or theft.

UNRULY FILINGS: Those charges that are law violation solely because of the child's age. Often referred to as "status offenses," these include truancy, runaway, and curfew violations among others.

DEPRIVED FILINGS: Those charges that relate to the abuse, neglect, mistreatment, or abandonment of a child.

TRAFFIC FILINGS : Those charges relating to violations of the traffic codes.

SPECIAL PROCEEDINGS: Those charges which fall outside of the above categories including termination of parental rights, extension or modification of custody, the sealing of records, waiver of parental notification of abortion, release from custody, Superior Court investigations, etc.

Table 1 shows an overall 45 percent decrease in filings for 2011, over 2007. It is apparent that the School Referral Reduction Program, a collaborative effort involving Clayton County Public Schools, the Clayton County Sheriff's Office, the Clayton County Police Department, and other municipal law enforcement agencies, is having the intended impact as there has been a steady decline in the number of delinquency cases filed from school settings over the past five years. While the number of complaints filed has decreased, our workload has shifted to providing more effective and closer supervision to high-risk offenders in the community. This increased level of supervision would not have been possible without the School Referral Reduction Program and similar reform efforts and shifts in Juvenile Court policy.

Deprived, unruly, traffic and special proceedings have remained more or less steady over the last several years. Traffic cases are the least labor intensive charges that come before the Juvenile Court while filings on delinquency and deprivation require the largest investments of staff time and resources.
