Soil is More Than Dirt

Date: Thursday, January 26, 2012

Time: 12:15 pm - 1:00 pm

Location: Clayton County International Park "The Beach"

Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just a beginner, there is one simple truth: the better the soil, the better your garden. Larry Dove of Two Doves Farm in Fayetteville will return to discuss soil testing and soil preparation for your most successful vegetable garden ever. He says it would be a good idea for you to have your soil tested prior to the program so he can help interpret the results. To take a soil sample, take several random shovels-full, approximately 6 inches deep, from your garden space. Mix together; remove rocks, weeds, and take about one cup of mixture to your county Cooperative Extension Services office. Label it "Vegetable", "Flower", "Turf", or whatever you plan to grow in that area. They will send to UGA; results will be sent to you. Soil test cost is $6.00 at Clayton County Extension. Call 770-473-5434 to register.

Note: Class will be held at The Beach Directions to The Beach: Enter Clayton County International Park, "The Beach", from Hwy 138 at Olympic Parkway, 2300 Hwy 138, and follow signs to the VIP Complex (right® at second stop sign). Enter through double doors facing the beach and take stairs/elevator to 2nd floor.
