Jonesboro - A groundbreaking ceremony for the
new Forest Park library will take place on Thursday, October 20, at
4:00pm. The site of the new facility and the groundbreaking
ceremony is located at 4812 West Street across from the rear
parking lot of the First Baptist Church of Forest Park. The public
is invited to attend the ceremony and become a part of Forest Park
history.
Commissioner Hambrick is delighted that the construction of the
new library will soon begin. "I am quite pleased to announce that
construction for the new 16,000 square feet library is scheduled to
begin over the next month with a targeted completion time of fall
of 2012. It will have a number of community oriented features that
include a room for teens, a computer lab, a multi-purpose meeting
room for the community and a homework center. In designing the new
library the county wanted to make sure that it met the needs of the
community that is being built to serve. I feel that the architects
on this project, Craig Gaulden Davis Architects and Gerding
Collaborative, have truly captured this concept."
The new facility will have the capacity to hold over 64,000
books and other library materials, in addition to 82 total
computers that will be at the disposal of the community. The energy
efficient complex will sit on 1.4 acres of land and use natural
daylight to decrease the use of artificial lighting and its current
natural surroundings of large trees to help decrease the need for
air conditioning. "This project has successfully taken root through
a partnership between local, county and state government in order
to provide a needed service to the residents of Forest Park", said
Carol Stewart, Clayton County Director of Library Services.
