Clayton County Geocaching Series

Date: Friday, November 25, 2011

Time: 12:01 am - 5:00 pm on Wednesday, Dec. 14.

Location: Various Clayton County Locations

Join Clayton County's geocaching adventure this holiday season when the Clayton County Convention & Visitors Bureau launches "Cache for Cash" on Friday, Nov. 25.

"Cache for Cash" invites adventurers to seek and find special tickets hidden within select Clayton County geocaching sites for an opportunity to win cash and prizes. Tickets can be found by geocachers beginning on Black Friday, Friday, Nov. 25, and must be redeemed by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the Jonesboro Welcome Center (104 North Main Street, Jonesboro, Ga. 30236). While not all of the caches will have the special tickets, those who find and redeem tickets will be entered into a drawing for one of three prize packages valued at $350 each. The prize pack will include $100 cash, a one night stay at the Clarion Hotel, admission for four to Stately Oaks Plantation and a family four pack of tickets to the Southern Belles & Whistles Historic Bus Tour and Road To Tara Museum.

Adventurers may register one time per geocaching site for the entirety of the promotion. Participants must be 18 years or older to enter the drawing and must present valid identification upon ticket submission at the Jonesboro Welcome Center. The Jonesboro Welcome Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The drawing will take place on Thursday, Dec. 15 and winners will be notified by phone.

Geocaching is a world-wide treasure hunting adventure which uses GPS technology and a series of predetermined coordinates to direct "cachers" to hidden boxes known as "caches." A perfect activity for families or small groups, Clayton County's geocaching sites vary from easy to moderate difficulty to accommodate large groups. Originally consisting of one series of nine caches, Clayton County's geocaching program will introduce a second series consisting of three new cache sites for the launch of "Cache for Cash."
