Jonesboro - In honor of Georgia's Arbor Day,
the Clayton County Soil and Water Conservation District will be
sponsoring its seedling giveaway on Friday, February 17th starting
at 12:00 Noon. The District is partnering with the Clayton County
Extension and the Clayton County Master Gardener Extension
Volunteers during this annual event. The giveaway will be held at
the Clayton County Extension Office at 1262 Government Circle,
Jonesboro, GA 30236.
The District has selected Dogwood and Chickasaw Plum seedlings
for this year's giveaway. Due to our climate, Georgia celebrates
Arbor Day on the third Friday in February of each year even though
National Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday in April.
Due to the rise in childhood diseases like obesity, diabetes and
heart disease, the focus for this year's Arbor Day celebration is
"More Kids in the Woods". Outdoor experiences can
help get children exposed to a healthy and active lifestyle.
According to Vacal Caldwell, Chairman of the Clayton County Soil
and Water Conservation District "We encourage our citizens to be
good stewards of the land and what better way to do your part than
to plant a tree or two and involve your children."

Extension Office at (770) 473-3945. For more information on
